What Public Domain Documents are Available for Further Study?

The US Department of Defense, Air Force, provides a detailed general resource for Sign Standards.  This 263 page manual is officially called UFC 3-120-01 (February 2003).

Tricks of the Trade & Rules of Thumb for Specialties Basics:

1. For signage lettering height: 1” for every 12’ of distance.
2. Try to limit to 4 words on a sign, if it’s a big sign, maybe go to 8 words.
3. Make sure any mailboxes have been reviewed with the Post Office or Postal Carrier.
